Unauthorized group membership via missing REST authorization
Published Mar 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper access control in GitLab allows remote authenticated users to add users to LDAP-synced groups through the REST API. The group-member creation endpoint fails to enforce the restriction that blocks manual membership changes when an LDAP group link exists, although the Web UI enforces it. GitLab before 14.3.6, 14.4.0 through 14.4.3, and 14.5.0 through 14.5.1 is affected when LDAP group sync and a group link are enabled; added users gain the selected group access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
