Script execution via unsanitized message Markdown
Published Aug 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
DOM-based XSS in Chatwoot before 2.7.0 allows remote attackers to run script in an agent's browser through a crafted chat message. MessageFormatter passes message Markdown to marked() and returns the generated HTML without DOMPurify sanitization, preserving javascript: links. An agent must render and follow the malicious link; successful exploitation executes script in that agent's Chatwoot browser context.
