Administrator-level code execution via unchecked PHP upload
Published Apr 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in MapPress Maps for WordPress before 2.73.13 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code. The mapp_tpl_save AJAX handler accepts attacker-controlled content without validation, appends .php, and writes it under an unsanitized name relative to the active theme directory. Administrator-level access and a writable web-served directory are required, after which the uploaded web shell runs with the web server process privileges.
