Stored XSS via unvalidated custom-attribute URLs
Published Feb 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Chatwoot before 2.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser via custom attributes. The CustomAttribute.vue component rendered arbitrary custom-attribute values as links; the fix validates URLs before link rendering, blocking javascript-style payloads. Exploitation requires a user with permission to store a custom attribute and another user to view the affected conversation or contact, enabling script execution in that viewer's session without a service outage.
