CVE-2022-0497Public exploit

Application crash via missing annotation newline bounds check

Published Aug 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in OpenSCAD's annotation parser allows attackers to crash the application by processing a crafted .scad file. The getComment loop searches the fulltext buffer for a newline but does not stop at the buffer length when the final annotation lacks one. Triggering requires a user or automated workflow to process an attacker-supplied local file; the demonstrated result is a segmentation fault, with no write primitive reported.
