Unauthenticated settings reset via missing CSRF checks
Published Jun 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in XCloner before 4.3.6 allows remote attackers to reset plugin settings through crafted WordPress requests. The xcloner_restore_defaults parameter reaches the admin.php or admin-ajax.php rest-nonce action without authorization and CSRF validation, permitting a reset that can generate a new backup encryption key. The attack requires a victim browser to submit the request, and the demonstrated impact is configuration and key alteration rather than data disclosure or service interruption.
