Authenticated avatar overwrite via nonunique filenames
Published Mar 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Authorization bypass in AyeCode Ltd UsersWP before 1.2.3.1 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite another user's avatar. The avatar update path accepts a user-chosen image basename without checking avatar ownership or making stored filenames unique, so a matching name replaces the existing file. Subscriber-level access and an avatar upload are required, and the demonstrated consequence is modification of another account's displayed profile image.
