Arbitrary file write via crafted archive paths
Published Feb 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Path traversal in w-zip before 1.0.12 allows attackers to write archive contents outside the extraction directory via crafted ZIP entries. The mZip.unzip function joins each entry path to the target directory without neutralizing parent-directory segments before writing the extracted data. Exploitation requires a consuming application to extract an attacker-supplied archive, and file writes remain limited by the application's filesystem permissions.
