Authenticated image renaming via request-controlled avatar path
Published Feb 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Path manipulation in LearnPress before 4.1.5 allows remote authenticated users to rename arbitrary JPG or PNG files through avatar cropping. The learn_press_update_user_profile_avatar function concatenates lp-user-avatar-crop[name] with the uploads base directory and later unlinks that request-selected source file. Any registered user with profile avatars enabled can target site images under the uploads tree, causing image loss and visible site defacement.
