Local SYSTEM escalation via unquoted search path
Published May 24, 2023 · Updated Jan 16, 2025
Unquoted search paths in Bitdefender Total Security, Internet Security, and Antivirus Plus before 26.0.10.45 allow local users to gain SYSTEM. The Vulnerability Scan component invokes a path or element without quoting it, allowing Windows path parsing to select attacker-controlled code. Local access with high privileges is required under Bitdefender’s assessment; successful exploitation runs code as SYSTEM.
