Unauthenticated file upload via unchecked language endpoint
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in multiple WordPress themes allows remote attackers to place arbitrary files on the web server without authentication. The include/lang_upload.php endpoint accepts the mofile[] multipart field and writes the supplied file into the theme's languages directory without authorization or file-type validation. A network request alone can plant an attacker-controlled PHP file, which the public proof of concept retrieves from the web-accessible theme path.
