Arbitrary file read via imported archive symlinks
Published Jan 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Arbitrary file read in GitLab CE/EE 14.5 through 14.5.2 and 14.6 through 14.6.1 allows remote authenticated users to read server files. BulkImports::Common::Pipelines::UploadsPipeline extracts uploads.tar.gz without removing symlinks, then File.open follows each link and saves the target as an imported upload. Access to group import and a controlled source group is required; readable server secrets and other files can be exposed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
