CVE-2022-0237Public exploit

SYSTEM code execution via unquoted runas path

Published Mar 17, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Rapid7 Insight Agent 3.1.2.38 and earlier allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM privileges. The ir_agent.exe component fails to double-quote a space-containing path passed to runas.exe, allowing Windows to resolve C:\Program.exe instead of the intended honeyhashx86.exe. The path is reached after reboot when Honey Credentials is enabled, so a local user who can place C:\Program.exe gains persistent SYSTEM execution.
