Administrator account creation via nonce-free settings update
Published Jan 18, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Cross-site request forgery in affected XootiX WordPress plugins allows remote attackers to update arbitrary site options. The wp_ajax save_settings handler omits nonce validation, parses attacker-supplied form data, and passes each key and value to update_option. Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator to follow a crafted link; changing registration and default-role options enables creation of an administrator account.
