Reflected XSS via unescaped mapid error output
Published Feb 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Reflected XSS in Chris Richardson MapPress Maps for WordPress before 2.73.4 allows remote attackers to run script via a crafted mapid. The plugin inserts the unsanitized, unescaped mapid parameter into its "Bad mapid" error message, placing attacker-controlled markup in the response. A victim must open the crafted URL; the script then runs in the site's origin and can read or alter browser-accessible data.
