CVE-2022-0084Network attack vector

Service interruption via uncontrolled exception logging

Published Aug 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Red Hat XNIO before 3.8.7 allows remote attackers to interrupt service by sending malformed requests. StreamConnection.notifyReadClosed catches an IOException from shutdownReads and prints its stack trace directly to standard error instead of routing it through the logging framework. Exploitation requires knowledge of the deployed server environment; repeated exceptions can create log contention or fill storage until service is interrupted.
