System-node takeover via installation log password
Published May 22, 2023 · Updated Jan 21, 2025
Sensitive-data logging in affected ABB QCS and Platform Engineering Tools releases allows local users to obtain a system password. During installation, the products write superfluous confidential information to unsecured system log files readable by low-privileged users. Access requires an account on a QCS node, directly or through tools such as Remote Desktop; the exposed password permits control of one or more nodes.
