Local information disclosure via aliased branch prediction
Published Mar 11, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Intra-mode branch target injection in some Intel processors allows local users to read privileged data through speculative execution. An indirect branch can speculate to an aliased predictor entry created by another branch in the same predictor mode, transiently executing a disclosure gadget. Exploitation requires low-privilege code on the same machine or virtual machine and a usable disclosure gadget; reported impact is limited to reading protected data.
