Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Jan 23, 2026 · Updated Jan 23, 2026
Local privilege escalation in Epson USB Display 1.6.0.0 allows local users to gain SYSTEM access through the EMP_UDSA service. The service registers an unquoted executable path containing spaces under C:\Program Files (x86) and starts automatically as LocalSystem. A low-privileged local user who can place an executable in a searched intermediate directory gains SYSTEM-level code execution when the service starts.
