Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Jan 21, 2026 · Updated Jan 21, 2026
Unquoted service path in Fyrolabs LLC PingZapper 2.3.1 allows local users to execute code as LocalSystem during service startup. The PingzapperSvc ImagePath omits quotation marks around C:\Program Files (x86)\Pingzapper\PZService.exe, causing Windows to consider attacker-planted executables at space-delimited path prefixes. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and the ability to place a file in a searched prefix; successful service startup grants LocalSystem code execution.
