LocalSystem code execution via unquoted service path
Published Jan 21, 2026 · Updated Jan 21, 2026
Unquoted service path handling in OKI Configuration Tool 1.6.53 allows local users to execute code with LocalSystem privileges. The OpLclSrv service registers C:\Program Files\Okidata\Common\extend3\portmgrsrv.exe without quotation marks, causing Windows to search earlier path segments for an executable. A low-privileged local user must place a candidate executable in a writable earlier segment and wait for the automatic service to start, after which the payload runs as LocalSystem.
