Code execution via unsanitized Markdown event handlers
Published Jan 16, 2026 · Updated Jan 16, 2026
Stored XSS in jotron StudyMD 0.3.2 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when a user opens a crafted Markdown file. The Markdown card-rendering path accepts embedded HTML event handlers without neutralization, and the Electron page exposes Node.js child_process APIs to the injected JavaScript. A victim must import and open the attacker-supplied file; execution then runs with the desktop application's user privileges.
