Code execution via active Markdown event handlers
Published Jan 16, 2026 · Updated Jan 16, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in Moeditor 0.2.0 allows attackers to execute JavaScript and operating-system commands through crafted Markdown files. The preview renderer accepts active HTML event handlers from Markdown and exposes Electron Node.js APIs, so an onerror handler can load child_process and execute a command. When a user opens the file, its payload runs with the desktop application's privileges, permitting command execution on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
