SYSTEM privilege escalation via writable service executable
Published Jan 15, 2026 · Updated Jan 15, 2026
Incorrect default permissions in Genomedics MilleGPG 5.7.2 allow local users to gain SYSTEM privileges by replacing a service executable. The installer grants ordinary users modify access to the MariaDB bin directory, letting mysqld.exe be renamed and replaced while its service runs as LocalSystem. A low-privileged Windows account must place the replacement and wait for a computer restart, which starts the malicious binary as SYSTEM.
