Arbitrary web-root file write via path traversal
Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026
Path traversal in CuteEditor for PHP 6.6 allows remote attackers to write HTML files within arbitrary web-root directories. In browse_Template.php, renamefile passes attacker-controlled filename and newname query parameters through ServerMapPath() to rename() without rejecting traversal segments. Reachability requires access to the editor functions and permission to upload and rename templates; successful exploitation relocates an HTML file outside the template directory but within the web root.
