Root command execution via unsanitized firmware URL
Published Dec 31, 2025 · Updated Dec 31, 2025
OS command injection in Cypress Solutions CTM-200 2.7.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute shell commands as root. The ctm-config-upgrade.sh firmware-upgrade handler passes the fw_url POST value through cmd upgradefw into cmdmain, which builds a wget command with sprintf and executes it through ctmsys without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Access to the HTTP management interface and valid credentials are required; successful exploitation grants root-level control of the gateway's Linux operating system.
