Local service interruption via zero-length extended element
Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Improper validation in Linux kernel mac80211 before 5.16 allows local users to interrupt availability via a malformed extended element. The ieee80211_parse_extension_element function subtracts one from a zero data length and reads elem->data[0] without confirming that the extended-element ID byte exists. Low-privileged local access is required; the published impact is limited to availability, with no confidentiality or integrity effect.
