CVE-2021-47582

Local task hang via uninterruptible USB waits

Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Denial of service in Linux kernel 2.6.12 through 5.15.10 allows local users to hang a calling task through USB ioctls. The USBDEVFS_CONTROL and USBDEVFS_BULK paths pass a user-selected timeout to usb_start_wait_urb(), which waits uninterruptibly if the device does not respond. Reaching the flaw requires local access to the USB device node and a nonresponsive USB device; the calling task remains blocked until the wait ends.
