Service interruption via leaked stream-name buffers
Published May 24, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in Linux kernel 5.15 ksmbd allows local users to exhaust kernel memory through crafted SMB file-stream queries. get_file_stream_info() allocates a stream-name buffer, then exits without freeing it when the encoded entry exceeds the response buffer. The ksmbd SMB server must be enabled, and repeated reachable queries can exhaust memory and interrupt the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
