CVE-2021-47460Public exploit

File data loss via stale page dirtiness

Published May 22, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Data corruption in the Linux kernel OCFS2 inline-data conversion path allows local users to lose file contents via crafted write sequences. ocfs2_convert_inline_data_to_extents dirties buffers beyond i_size while their pages remain clean, so later mark_buffer_dirty calls fail to make the pages eligible for writeback. Exploitation requires write access to a mounted OCFS2 filesystem, inline-to-extent conversion, writeback, file growth, and page reclamation; affected contents disappear after remount.
