Local denial of service via strset memory leak
Published May 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leakage in Linux 5.13 through 5.14.11 allows local users to interrupt service through libbpf string-set cleanup. The strset__free() function releases the string hash and data buffer but fails to free the enclosing strset allocation. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and repeated string-set lifecycles, exhausting memory until affected tooling or the host becomes unavailable.
