Local service stalls via past-deadline timer rearming
Published May 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux mac80211_hwsim module allows local users to stall simulated beacon processing through late timers. Its beacon callback rearms a late high-resolution timer at the next scheduled deadline even when that deadline is already past, causing repeated immediate catch-up firings. Reachability requires local access and an active mac80211_hwsim simulation; the established consequence is an availability-only stall rather than data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
