Local system crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published Apr 10, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Null pointer dereference in Linux kernel TIPC before 5.10.82, 5.15.5, or 5.16 allows local users to crash the system. In net/tipc/crypto.c, tipc_aead_init fails to check whether kmemdup returned null for tmp->key, which tipc_crypto_key_xmit later dereferences. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and an allocation failure during TIPC AEAD-key initialization; the bounded impact is a system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
