Service interruption via leaked NFC device memory
Published Mar 25, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in affected Linux kernel 4.0 through 5.13-rc3 allows local users to exhaust memory through NFC device teardown. The nfcmrvl disconnect path releases struct nci_dev without freeing its hci_dev field, leaving each allocation permanently unreferenced. Reachability requires the nfcmrvl driver and repeated Marvell NFC device teardown; accumulated unreclaimed kernel memory can interrupt service.
