CVE-2021-47176

System panic via missing DASD verification callback

Published Mar 25, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Denial of service in Linux kernel 5.4.235 through 5.4.236, 5.10.173 through 5.10.174, and 5.11 allows local users to panic s390 systems. The FBA and DIAG DASD disciplines lack the verify_path wrapper added after a callback rename, so dasd_device_tasklet invokes an invalid discipline function during path verification. Reaching the crash requires an s390 host with an FBA or DIAG DASD device and a path-verification event; the illegal-operation exception causes a kernel panic.
