CVE-2021-47028

Conditional kernel panic via unchecked transmit rates

Published Feb 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper rate validation in the Linux mt7915 wireless driver from 5.8 allows adjacent attackers to trigger a kernel warning via Wi-Fi traffic. The mt7915_mcu_tx_rate_parse function accepts out-of-range HT, VHT, and HE MCS or HE guard-interval values and passes the resulting rate_info to cfg80211_calculate_bitrate. An MT7915 interface exchanging traffic with a wireless peer is required; the warning can panic systems configured with panic_on_warn.
