Authenticated file disclosure via unvalidated protected-media path
Published Oct 22, 2023 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Path traversal in Wagtail CRX CodeRed Extensions before 0.22.3 allows remote authenticated users to read server files. The serve_protected_file view joins the captured protected-media URL path to CODERED_PROTECTED_MEDIA_ROOT and opens the result without resolving and confining it to that root. Any logged-in user who can request the protected-media route can submit encoded parent-directory segments and read an existing file accessible to the service account; anonymous users cannot reach the route.
