Interpreter crash via crafted JavaScript execution
Published Jan 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Memory corruption in Cesanta MJS 2.20.0 allows local users to crash the interpreter by executing a crafted JavaScript file. The script exercises nested chr, print, JSON.stringify, and JSON.parse operations until an invalid write triggers a segmentation fault at binary offset 0x2c17e. Execution requires a user or embedding application to supply the script to the interpreter, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
