Interpreter crash via crafted JSON numeric literal
Published Jan 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Segmentation fault in JSON.parse in Cesanta mJS 2.20.0 allows local users to crash the interpreter with a crafted JavaScript file. JSON.parse passes the crafted numeric literal 192.015052000001 through json_parse_number to frozen_cb, where an invalid read terminates the process. Execution of attacker-supplied script content is required, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination rather than data exposure or modification.
