Unauthenticated code execution via unchecked sscanf
Published Mar 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stack buffer overflow in Tenda AX3 firmware 16.03.12.10 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted PPTP server request. The formSetPPTPServer handler passes the startIp HTTP parameter to sscanf without a length check, overflowing a stack buffer. No authentication or user interaction is required, and a crafted POST to /goform/SetPptpServerCfg reaches the vulnerable handler over the network.
