Data disclosure via mutable authentication result
Published Mar 21, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authentication bypass in Lexar FingerTool_Lexar 1.0.34.0 allows local users to unlock an F35 drive with an incorrect password. The Windows management program trusts a mutable EAX return value from its DeviceIoControl-based password-verification function, so changing the failure code to zero is accepted as success. Access to the attached drive and the local program is required; successful exploitation decrypts stored data and grants drive-administrator functions.
