Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Feb 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unquoted service path handling in TRIGONE Remote System Monitor 3.61 allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM privileges. The RemoteSystemMonitorService Windows service registers C:\Program Files\TRIGONE\Remote System Monitor Server\RemoteSystemMonitorService.exe without quotation marks, allowing startup to select an attacker-planted executable from an earlier path segment. Exploitation requires local write access to a searched path segment and a service start, after which the planted process runs as LocalSystem.
