Interpreter abort via missing PrivateSet object conversion
Published Jan 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 3.0.0 allows local users to crash the interpreter by executing a crafted JavaScript file. The PrivateSet operation omits the required ToObject conversion, so a private setter reached through a non-object receiver passes an invalid value to ecma_get_object_from_value and triggers its assertion. Execution of attacker-supplied JavaScript and user interaction are required; the demonstrated consequence is an interpreter abort and service interruption.
