Process abort via circular Proxy prototype chain
Published Jan 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 3.0.0 allows local users to abort the engine by executing crafted JavaScript input. Assigning a Proxy to Object.prototype.proto creates a circular prototype chain that reaches ecma_free_string_list with an invalid string reference count. Execution of attacker-controlled JavaScript and user interaction are required; exploitation terminates the hosting process without reported data disclosure or modification.
