Memory corruption via oversized RegExp replacement
Published Jan 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in Moddable SDK 11.5.0 allows local users to corrupt memory by executing crafted JavaScript in the XS runtime. fxPushSubstitutionString copies a one-megabyte substitution with memcpy past the allocated heap region during RegExp replacement. Exploitation requires a user to run the crafted script locally; the public reproducer demonstrates an out-of-bounds heap write rather than code execution.
