Remote command execution via backtick command substitution
Published Feb 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-846 firmware 100A43 and 100A53DLA allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through HNAP. The SetNetworkTomographySettings.php handler passes a crafted tomography_ping_address into shell-based domain-name validation, where backticks trigger command substitution. The published proof of concept includes HNAP authentication material despite NVD's privileges-none score and demonstrates impact by rebooting the router.
