Service interruption via corrupted scene-graph node
Published Jan 21, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stack overflow in GPAC 1.1.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash MP4Box by supplying a crafted media file. While dumping a VRML route, gf_dump_vrml_route passes an attacker-corrupted scene-graph node to gf_node_get_name, which dereferences its sgprivate pointer without establishing that the node is valid. Exploitation requires a user or workflow to process the file with MP4Box; the documented result is a segmentation fault and service interruption, not code execution.
