Process crash via unchecked pthread argument parsing
Published Jan 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Modex 2.11 allows local users to crash the process by analyzing a crafted C source file. In xtract.c, set_create_id() assumes OutBuf contains an ampersand and passes s+1 to strchr() even when the first search returned NULL. A user must cause Modex to analyze source whose pthread_create() first argument lacks an ampersand; the demonstrated consequence is a Modex segmentation fault.
