Admin code execution via malicious template installation
Published Jan 26, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Unrestricted template upload in JPress 4.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through the admin panel. The doInstall method extracts an uploaded ZIP into classes/webapp/templates, where template preview evaluates attacker-supplied JavaScript through ScriptEngineManager. Access requires an authenticated administrator able to install and preview templates; successful exploitation runs commands with the JPress process's privileges.
