Account takeover via executable HTML image uploads

Published Jan 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Stored XSS in Vehicle Service Management System 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to steal administrator session cookies via HTML image uploads. The avatar, system-logo, and website-cover upload paths accept HTML files and serve them so embedded onerror JavaScript reads document.cookie and sends PHPSESSID to an external endpoint. Administrative access is required to place the file, and a victim must open the uploaded content before the exposed session can enable account takeover.
